HICAHS Founder Roy Buchan Dies
Roy (Mack) McKinney Buchan passed away on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011. Dr. Buchan held a faculty position in the Department of Environmental Health at Colorado State University from 1973 until 2003. During his tenure he founded the Industrial Hygiene program in the Department of Environmental and Radiological Health Sciences. To support students and staff in this new major he applied for a Kellogg Foundation grant and started the CSU-based OSHA Consultation Program. He and his wife Vicky founded the High Plains Intermountain Center for Agricultural Health and Safety (HICAHS) in 1991. A relentless advocate for occupational health and safety, Roy could still be found at CSU years after his "retirement." Vicky is still active in her role as the Director of the HICAHS Evaluation Program. Dr. Buchan will be missed by the staff of HICAHS.
